Research Areas

Structural retrofit work has come to the forefront of industry practice in response to the aging of building and civil infrastructure worldwide. In addition, there have been major revisions in codes to ensure that structures better withstand natural phenomena, such as earthquakes. These two forces create a great need for more effective materials, methods, and techniques for structural rehabilitation.

The primary research of the center focuses on meeting this need through the following activities:

The development of products and manufacturing methods that use advanced composites for the rehabilitation and strengthening of buildings and bridge

The development of installation processes and engineering design

Testing, monitoring and evaluation of repaired structures

Standardization and code approval of products and design protocols

Education and technology transfer.

If you are interested in participating in research in these areas, the University Transportation Center (UTC) offers several assistantship opportunities at the doctoral level.
